JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsibility for managing, developing and reviewing a programme of activities for elderly nursing home residents.
Summary of Role:
The successful candidate will have complete responsibility for managing and developing implementing and reviewing a programme of activities for the elderly residents in Orwell House to a high standard.
They will need to be a team player, good communicator and familiar with good health & safety procedures. Be familiar with the HIQA guidelines.
Key Responsibilities: - To use a variety of techniques and activities to improve and maintain the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of the residents and encourage them to have fun.
- Arrange and implement small groups, large groups and individual activities for residents on a daily weekly and monthly basis.
- Plan social and spiritual events in the interest of residents in conjunction with staff residents and families.
- Arrange special days i.e. Summer Party, Christmas Party, Halloween Party. Tea Party.
- Arrange press releases and photos to local newspapers of special events
- Arrange fund raising.
- Recruit and source Volunteers and Trainees for the activities programme.
- Respect the confidentiality of residents information
- Carry out health & safety policies practised in the nursing home.
- Meet, listen and speak to the residents and their families.
- Take time to get to know residents.
- Be responsible for the safety & care of the activity equipment.
- Research, order and purchase equipment for activities
- Administration, phone work, researching and filing person centred plans.
- Attend training courses with in the nursing home and outside bodies
- Attend event planning meetings with management.
- Encourage care staff and nursing staff to be actively involved in the day to day running of activities when possible
- Delegate and actively involve residents and staff when possible and necessary in relation to the planning and the setting up of activities
- Plan weekly events on the notice board and to residents rooms
- Plan summer outings
- Plan and balance activities budget.
- Link up with administration staff in relation to the news letter and up and coming events
- Be familiar of the HIQA guidelines in relation to Activities.
